Paper

Bright, printable and economical. Best for dry, indoor use.

Film

Water, oil and tear resistant. White BOPP is commonly used for bottles and chilled products.

Bright colors for warehouse and shelf labels. Most also come with removable adhesive.

Security and special purpose

Stocks for tamper evidence, visibility, and hard surfaces or temperatures.

A clear layer over the print sets the look and adds protection.

Effects and cuts

Details that change how a label looks, works or comes off the roll.

• EmbossingPart of the design is pressed up from the surface.
• BleedInk runs all the way to the edge of the label.
• Flood coat (tint)The whole label is covered in ink.
• ReverseType or art shows in the stock color through the ink.
• Backside printingCopy on the liner: coupons, instructions, terms.
• PerforationThe liner is perforated between labels so they tear apart.

Unwind direction

Applicators and printers need labels to come off the roll a certain way. Pick a number to see the direction.

Cores

1" and 3" cardboard cores on request, or coreless. If you don’t specify, the plant chooses.

Tell us the surface and the conditions the product will face, and we’ll match the adhesive. For applicators, we confirm core, unwind direction and roll size first.

UL-approved materials

Stocks approved for UL labels, for indoor and outdoor use. We print spot (PMS) or full color, consecutive numbers and barcodes on them.

BOPP

Biaxially oriented polypropylene: a tough, water-resistant film.

Butt cut (square cut)

Labels cut edge to edge with no liner showing between them.

Core

The cardboard tube in the middle of a roll, usually 1" or 3".

Die-cut

Cutting labels to shape with a steel die.

Face stock

The printed material on top: paper, film or foil.

Flexo

Printing from flexible plates, one ink per station. Fast and consistent on long runs.

Kiss cut

A cut through the face and adhesive that leaves the liner whole.

Lamination

A clear film over the print for protection.

Layflat liner

A liner that stays flat instead of curling. Available on some stocks.

Liner

The backing labels ride on until they’re applied.

Matrix

The waste around die-cut labels, stripped off on press.

Pressure-sensitive label

A self-adhesive label that sticks with pressure. No water or heat needed.

Process color

Full color built from cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

Proof

A preview of your label, set up for the press, for you to approve.

Spot color

A single mixed ink, matched by number. One plate per color.

Static cling

Vinyl that holds to glass with no adhesive.

Unwind direction

How the copy faces as labels come off the roll, numbered 1 to 8.

Varnish

A liquid coating printed over the label: gloss, matte or spot.

Weatherproof

Built to take heat, cold, water and sun outdoors.
