Label finishes: which one is right for your product?

A label’s finish changes how it looks on the shelf and how long it lasts. Here are the main options and what each one is good for.

Label finishes
The finish affects how your logo looks and how well the label holds up. Will the product sit in a cooler? Live outdoors? Get wet? The answer depends on what the product goes through. Here are the main finishes, all listed in our catalog.
- Laminated: A clear film over the print that protects it against moisture, sunlight and scratches. Choose gloss, matte or textured, depending on the look you want.
- UV varnish: A coating cured with UV light into a hard, glossy layer that resists scuffs. A good fit for products that get handled a lot.
- Spot and matte varnishes: A varnish can cover the whole label or just part of it; a spot of gloss on your logo draws the eye. Matte varnish can be written on.
- Embossing: Raised areas you can feel, often seen on wine and spirits labels. Besides the look, the texture helps shoppers who are visually impaired find your product by touch.
If you’d like to hear more about these finishes, request a quote and tell us how the label will be used.
